DAKINI

Dakini Kundalini Mother
Original 16 x 20” Acrylic
Katherine Skaggs ©2004
Passionate, intense, aware, connected, transformative Mother.
I began this painting in a fury of passionate brush strokes, intense colors of reds and blacks, moving the core energy of anger and a deep sense of rage that was burning in a fire deep inside. The energy was ancient, almost frightening to touch so deeply into its presence. Yet as I painted a calm came over me and the presence of my Dakini woman, full of transformative kundalini energy, came full into my awareness.
Dakini is a Sanskrit word that literally means “Sky Dancer.” Symbolically, this is one who is free to be one’s natural self, unencumbered by identification with self-images that are not accurate expressions of one’s true nature. Dakini Kundalini Mother affirms my life’s process, and somehow, the process each one of us travels on a spiritual path.

THE YONI

THE BINDU

The bindu is a term from Indian iconography, indicating a point that symbolises the potentiality from which the universe comes into being.

"In metaphysical terms Bindu is held to be the point at which begins creation and the point at which the unity becomes the many. It is also described as "the sacred symbol of the cosmos in its unmanifested state" * Khanna, Madhu (1979). Yantra: The Tantric Symbol Of Cosmic Unity. Thames and Hudson."
